WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — Former President Donald Trump has publicly defended his decision to back Kash Patel as his potential pick to lead the FBI, should he return to the White House. Trump, in a recent interview with NBC, argued that Patel, a former aide and loyal ally, is committed to investigating corrupt politicians and holding the Washington establishment accountable.

“Kash Patel is someone who knows the system inside out, and he’s not afraid to go after the corruption that is rotting our political institutions,” Trump said. He added that, as FBI director, Patel would be “obligated” to investigate political corruption and ensure that justice is served, regardless of party affiliation.

Patel, a former chief of staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense in the Trump administration, has been an outspoken booster of Trump’s policies. He played a leading role in efforts to scrutinize the handling of FBI investigations into Trump’s 2016 campaign. His potential nomination as the FBI director has attracted praise from Trump supporters but raises eyebrows from critics, who believe Patel is too close to Trump and could compromise the agency’s independence.

Despite the criticism, Trump remained adamant that Patel is the right person for the job. “Kash is tough, he’s smart, and he’s exactly what we need to clean up the mess in Washington,” Trump said, accusing the political establishment of fearing Patel’s appointment due to his commitment to transparency.

Critics even include some former FBI officers who are worried that Patel could politicize the FBI further, given his involvement with efforts to challenge the integrity of investigations into Trump’s alleged ties to Russia. Again, Trump dismissed these worries but reiterated his belief that the FBI has been compromised by political bias and needs reform.

“I think we all know the FBI hasn’t been neutral in recent years, and we need somebody to bring back trust in the system,” Trump said. He added that Patel’s investigative background would help bring back credibility to the bureau.

Though Trump has yet to officially announce Patel as his nominee for the position of FBI director, the comments he made place Patel at a strong advantage if he wins the 2024 election. Whichever it is, the nomination will receive scrutiny at the Senate, where any FBI director nominee must be confirmed.
