SAN FRANCISCO (Diya TV) — Suchir Balaji, the 26 year old former OpenAI researcher turned whistleblower, was found dead in his apartment in San Francisco on November 26, 2024. Authorities claim that he committed suicide, but the family disagrees and have hired a private investigator to uncover more about this case.

Balaji was a computer science prodigy who had an illustrious academic and professional career. He was at UC Berkeley, where he had a 4.0 GPA and graduated with a degree in computer science. After graduating, he joined OpenAI and made tremendous contributions to the development of AI systems like ChatGPT.

In late 2023, Balaji started voicing his concerns over the data usage practices of OpenAI. He accused the company of using copyrighted material without permission to train its AI models, which may have violated copyright laws. He shared these concerns in interviews with The New York Times.

Balaji’s family described him as a shining bright and ethical soul, deeply concerned about the repercussions of AI technologies on societies. They told Diya TV they want a transparent investigation into his death.
