SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Diya TV) — A Democratic candidate vying for a seat in the California Assembly is getting some unwanted attention after surveillance footage from five years ago reemerged showing her egg a car in Cupertino, California. Surveillance video from 2019 captures Tara Sreekrishnan vandalizing the car of a well-known Indian American community leader at night. The tale has resurfaced just days ahead of her election showdown with fellow Democrat Patrick Ahrens.

In the video, Sreekrishnan, who was 25 years old at the time, went towards her targeted residence donning aviator sunglasses. At this home, she consistently hurls eggs against the side of the parked car, as well as the dwelling itself. Once headlights get within close distance, she runs away. The resident whose name has been withheld, revealed to a judge that Sreekrishnan’s dad sent a $299 payment in compensation.

She at first denied any involvement but later admitted her part after being confronted with the PayPal receipt. She said it was a “prank” she committed in anger over some remarks the victim made about her ties to the Indian American community. Sreekrishnan said she has since made amends with the man, who had earlier this year hosted a campaign event for her.

Political observers are, however, paying attention to how the scandal may impact Sreekrishnan’s chances in a contest for an otherwise very safe blue seat, one currently occupied by Evan Low, who is running for Congress. Both are currently legislative aides, making the contest for the closely-watched primary of keen interest.
