WASHINGTON (Diya TV) — As the Kamala Harris campaign hits the final stretch in her bid for the presidency of the United States, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman is ready to perform at an open-air live music concert in her support. Organized by the Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund, the event is a high-profile effort to engage South Asians to back Harris.
This live concert is meant to celebrate the historic candidacy of Harris while amplifying the voices of AAPI candidates running for Congress and other offices up for grabs in the impending November elections. The concert will be Sunday and excitement and buzz around the concert is already generating many discussions on the social media pages of the AAPI Victory Fund.
Rahman has an international reputation in both Indian and Western cinema in composing music, including the iconic score of Slumdog Millionaire. The AAPI Victory Fund is endorsing Harris for president and declared the concert a “world-class live music event,” which will be streamed directly into homes around the world, encouraging participation from a broad audience.
Though Rahman is not commenting on the event publicly, his participation is indicative of the fact that Harris’ candidacy has international appeal, particularly in the Indian American diaspora. Harris, being the offspring of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, often narrates about her multicultural heritage and thus a representative figure for many immigrant communities residing in the U.S.
This concert joins a wave of entertainment industry endorsements toward Harris with A-listers such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and George Clooney already cosigning her campaign. The more the events draw closer to election time, the more engagements with voters are expected, especially in the AAPI community – an important demographic bloc in Harris’s campaign strategy.
Harris could become the first woman and the first Indian American to hold the office.
Like we do for other campaign events involving Trump and Harris, Diya TV will stream this event on our YouTube channel Sunday, but has not received compensation to do so.
